What to Expect from a Holiday in the Algarve

There are countless reasons as to why the Algarve is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world. If you are considering whether this particular location should be your next destination for your annual family holiday, then you may be curious about what you can expect from the experience. Here is a short breakdown to help you decide if it’s the right destination choice for you.

Private accommodation

You will find a host of private accommodation options available in the Algarve. Simply search for villas in Algarve for rent, and you will be able to discover luxury accommodation that provides you with all the privacy that you need to really unwind and savour the beauty and relaxation for which the region is so well known. Most villas can fit a minimum of five-six guests, making them the ideal choice for group travel and for families visiting the area. You will also find that they can be surprisingly affordable, especially when you consider all of the added extras that come with this particular choice of accommodation, such as your own private pool and self-catering facilities.

Pristine, powdery beaches

You will be already aware that the Algarve is a favourite destination for perfect beach holidays. Think hours spent soaking up the abundant sunshine and immersing your feet in the soft, powdery beach sand. The ocean is cool yet welcoming when the weather is intense. This makes it the perfect spot for exciting water activities. Even if you’ve never taken part in any of these activities before, it is usually very easy to organise lessons with a professional without ever having to leave your spot on the beach!

The great news is that the Algarve promises pleasant weather practically all year round and, even more impressively, an approximate 100 mile stretch of shimmering sands.

Retail therapy

When the heat becomes too much, most tourists will make their way to Guia and Faro. Here, you will find two sizeable shopping centres and a retail park. They are all sure to provide you with endless alternatives for entertainment while you’re away. Take your pick from restaurants serving up delicious local delicacies, and cinemas screening some of the latest releases. There will also obviously be plenty of boutique stores in which to find some new pieces to add to your wardrobe, too.

All in all, you’re guaranteed a memorable experience and a lasting dose of well-deserved retail therapy before making your way back to your villa.

Adventurous activities

The great news about the Algarve is the fact that it provides opportunities to create balance when it comes to your holiday. While there will be ample time to spend lazing around on the beach, there is also a wide range of adventures and activities just waiting for you to try out.

Unsurprisingly, water sports, such as snorkelling and swimming, are popular. That is, as long as you don’t mind a refreshing dip in the cool waters of the Atlantic Ocean! If you’d prefer to stay dry, you might want to try your hand at fishing. You can be sure that the lapping waters will always be full of a diverse range of colourful fish.

Other sports that are popular in the Algarve include tennis and golf. There are a few world-class golf courses in the area which provide golfers, both seasoned and beginners, a chance to savour the sunshine amidst miles of rolling, manicured lawns. It’s sure to be a game to remember.

As you move further inland, you will be able to explore a host of natural beauty and numerous hiking and cycling paths. Don’t forget to take your camera!

Diverse flavours

You can truly get a taste for Portuguese flavour when you choose the Algarve as your holiday destination for 2020! Some of the most popular Portuguese dishes are served in abundance at the many restaurants and eateries scattered along the coast. Obviously, you will want to sample some seafood for starters. While Portugal is arguably most famous for its juicy prawns, a dish that originated in the Algarve specifically is known as Conquilhas à Algarvia. This meal includes creamy clams, fragrant garlic and onion, and is further enhanced with tasty, succulent Portuguese sausage.

You also can’t go wrong by ordering Feijoada. This hearty, flavoursome pork and bean stew is enough to satisfy even the largest of appetites. A sure-fire winner if you’re exceptionally hungry after a long day of adventure.

Now is the time to book your flight to the Algarve. As you can see, it’s a holiday unlike any other, and one that will allow you to create lifelong memories that you will treasure for many years to come.
